Sir by Mawi

Sir by Mawi

An eclectic mix of cultures, experiences and art have helped to shape and influence Margaret Thangmawi Keivorn throughout her childhood. After completing a fashion design degree in Auckland, New Zealand she travelled the Globe, and worked in top fashion houses such as Isaac Mizrahi in New York and later with Bill Amberg and Via Couture in London. This eventually led to her creating and launching her own accessories label, Mawi. She experimented with vintage remnants and trinkets picked up from craft fairs and boot sales, and incorporating these objet d’art into her designs quickly became her signature style.

Following great early days, the unique appeal of the brand was further established when Mawi was brought into the limelight and stocked on the ground floor of Selfridges in London. This is where it really began, competing against some of the biggest names and best brands in one of the most famous stores in the world. It has been since this point and since the 2003 London Fashion Week that Mawi has achieved great success and the best kind of notoriety.

Born from the love of collecting these trinkets old and new from around the world, the brand has been built upon the understanding of ‘...inspiration, experimentation and customisation’ .  This was recognised at this time by the British Fashion Council as they awarded Mawi the New Generation Award, which was one of many acclaims for the new and inspired company. As the brand has evolved, it is the jewellery that has been brought to the forefront and now Mawi has turned her unique touch and attention to men's jewellery with the 'Sir by Mawi' collections.

It has been the original creativity that has given Mawi its unique and idolised identity within the fashion world. From season to season the underlying signature remains whilst styles change and transition with ease; Mawi has brought to us something that is totally different to other designer pieces. Every piece is lovingly created and results in an item of jewellery that is very special; the name 'Heirloom' given to their collections is utterly appropriate. It is the inclusion of Mawi’s history and their understanding and love towards both vintage and new designs that is acknowledged and communicated within each of their designs that separates Mawi design from the rest.
